Vegan Tattoo Inks

Why I Choose Vegan Inks

So you have decided to get a tattoo. You have the perfect tattoo design in mind and have found your ideal tattooist. Have you decided which type of ink you would like used in your tattoo?

Many people don’t stop to consider the ink that will be used in their skin. At my studio I only use high quality vegan ink and have a number of preferred suppliers who only make vegan inks.

I choose vegan inks because I believe in limiting (or eliminating) toxins and am proud to offer this opportunity to my clients as well.

So what’s the difference between vegan inks and regular inks?

Regular Inks can contain:

  • Animals bones
  • Animal fat (glycerin)
  • Gelatin (hooves) and shellac (beetles)
  • Lotions/ointments for after care including beeswax and lanolin or codliver oil

Vegan Inks generally contain:

  • Black – carbon and logwood
  • White – titanium dioxide
  • Yellow – tumeric
  • Green – monoazo, a carbon-based pigment
  • Blue – sodium and aluminum (is that really safe?), many that contain copper are safe
  • Red – Naphthol which can still cause a reaction
  • Purple – dioxazine and carbazole

For me the choice is really simple.
